When companies think about their maintenance strategy they usually don’t consider a reduction of their emissions as a target or even influencing factor. However, in times when governments are sued if they don’t achieve reduction goals for CO2 emission and companies pressured to comply with more regulations, “being green” becomes more important.
Disruptive technologies, e.g. predictive maintenance, could be a lever to improve a company’s ecological footprint as it impacts the entire supply chain end-to- end: For instance, machines running smoothly reduce waste; spare parts ordered only when necessary eliminates redundant transportation.
This master thesis will analyze the potential impact of technologies on emissions along the entire supply chain in three steps:
- Discussion of As-is situation for various industries in order to identify the main drivers of emissions.
- Analysis of optimization potential for supply chain and production processes
- Summary of total impact on emissions
This master thesis starts with a qualitative analysis but may be supported by some data (e.g. various OEEs) to allow a quantification of the results. While all industries are in scope, the thesis may identify and focus on those that are most affected.
